The Front Room

Conversations in the Front Room Michael McMillan

25 Oct 2007

Join curator Michael McMillan to launch the Front Room website on 25 October

‘I grew up learning that “cleanliness is next to godliness” and that no matter how poor we were, if the front room looked good, then we were decent people.’ – Michael McMillan

Join curator Michael McMillan to launch the Front Room website which is part of the project exploring aesthetics and cultural significances of living spaces.

Iniva will be screening BBC4’s documentary Tales from the Front Room which explores the memories of three generations of Caribbean Britons.

The West Indian Front Room exhibition, originally at the Geffrye Museum, is recreated in Iniva’s Education Space at Rivington Place on a smaller scale from 25 October – 17 November.

Join curator Michael McMillan and share your stories about arriving and becoming part of London, focusing on choices of décor and objects in living spaces.

Bring an object dear to your heart and have a postcard portrait taken of yourself with a digital front room backdrop of your choice! Artist Leticia Valverdes will also be present.

Admission is free. As places are limited we recommend that you reserve a place by phoning 020 7749 1240 or by email to bookings@rivingtonplace.org
