Alexandra Tatarsky

About

Alexandra Tatarsky is a writer and performer based in New York City. She is interested in the construction of the self through language and investigates the ethics of intercultural cross-play.

She has contributed to the Stuart Hall Library Research Network in 2018. Together with Ming Ling, she presented  ‘DREPM THE WOELD The Shanzhai Lyric’, an exploration in language and translational dialect between different cultures.

Her solo shows ‘Beast of Festive Skin’, ‘SIGN FELT!’ and ‘Americana Psychobabble’ were commissioned by Poetry Electric at La Mama ETC and have toured across the US. Her works have also been shown at SBC Gallery, Montreal (2019); moCa, Clevland (2019); Abrons Art Centre, New York (2019); Movement Research Festival, New York (2018); Bronx Art Space, New York (2018); MoMA PS1, New York, (2018);  Da Vinci Art Alliance, Philadelphia (2017); Intrepid Theatre Club, Canada (2017). She was the Artist-in-Residence at the School of Authentic Journalism, Mexico (2016), and the Movement Research Artist-In-Residence in New York (2016-2017). She has written on Russian-Jewish poetics and spambot lyricism for publications including The New Inquiry, Hypocrite Reader, and Emerald Tablet. 

She completed an MFA in devised performance from The University of Arts/Pig Iron School.
