Social Archive One: An Economic Forecast (Shoreditch) Shiraz Bayjoo

Social Archive One: An Economic Forecast (Shoreditch) Mary Sewell and Shiraz Bayjoo

07 Jul 2011

Join workshops led by artist Shiraz Bayjoo and produce short films and photographs to document stories of people working and living in Shoreditch

The recent financial crisis, public spending cuts, the 2011 Budget – economics affect us all but who benefits and what are the impacts locally?

Rivington Place is located in Shoreditch – a centre for the creative industries, next door to the Square Mile, and yet one of the most deprived boroughs in the UK.

Join a short guided tour of the area provided by professional guide Mary Sewell followed by workshops led by artist Shiraz Bayjoo as you take on the role of social historian to produce a series of short films and photographs documenting the stories of people working and living in the area.

Films will be displayed in an exhibition from 19-23 July and online – prizes to be won include a fantastic flip camera. You can book as many workshops as you wish, each takes the same format but deals with different subjects.

East London Art Weekend Those taking the cultural trails for the East London Art Weekend can visit a display on this project at Rivington Place in the Education Space. They will be able to see photos, read up on the history of Shoreditch, watch some of the videos created in the first project workshop as well as creating thier own digital portrait of their economic footprint in the area for inclusion on the Social Archive One exhibition.

These workshops are part of Art at the Intersection: Art and Economies, a three year project exploring critical and creative appraoches to economics.

Part of Create 11 and supported by Adobe Youth Voices.
