Welcome to the first Saturday Afternoon Reading Group, hosted by Iniva at the Stuart Hall Library.

Acting as an accompaniment to her exhibition Belonging at Morley Gallery, for this Reading Group the artist Joy Labinjo will discuss texts by Sonia Boyce and Eddie Chambers.  The texts will stimulate discussion and debate on Black Arts in Britain during the 1980s and the representation of Black artists today. This reading group is open to all and the texts will be read together at the event.

Joy Labinjo is an artist who draws on her British-Nigerian heritage and examine the complex relationship between identity, race and culture. Her exhibition, Belonging, will open on 11th January 2018 at Morley Gallery, London. Labinjo is the recent recipient of one of the most prestigious graduate art prizes in the UK, the Woon Foundation Prize, jointly hosted by BALTIC Centre for Contemporary Art and Northumbria University.
