Gayle Chong Kwan, a London-based artist, and Jo Evans, a creative therapist from A Space, explore practical and creative ways to use the Emotional Learning Cards at home and in a school or college, gallery or museum context in this workshop – part of the programme of events at the London Art Book Fair 2011.

Gayle Chong Kwan exhibits and works on projects internationally. Her artwork Babel from her photographic series ‘Cockaigne’ (2004) is reproduced in the first set of cards. Other artists featured on the cards include Jennifer Allora and Guillermo Calzadilla, Shiraz Bayjoo, NS Harsha, Anthony Key, Hew Locke, Donald Rodney, Zineb Sedira, Susan Stockwell and Fiona Tan.

Iniva and A Space for creative learning and support have co-published two sets of Emotional Learning Cards. ‘Who are you? Where are you going?’ follows the success of ‘What do you feel?’ which was praised by teachers, parents and art therapists. The new set is designed for use by all age groups.

The themes covered relate to how we form our sense of self. The origins of our identity are revealed or hidden in our personal and cultural belief systems, values and attitudes. By mapping our emotional and social histories, we increase our insight into who we are and where we come from, enabling us to make more informed decisions over where we are going and what we want from our lives and relationships.
