The Money Makers

|

INIvators take over and establish a sovereign State at Iniva. Join their revolutions and celebrate at Rivington Place.

At Rivington Place, London, UK
13 - 15 March 2008

Since the opening of the States of Exchange exhibition at Iniva, the INIvators (Iniva's recently formed Youth Advisory Board) and artist Harun Morrison have been involved in creating a new currency, the vator note, and establishing a sovereignty at Iniva as part of the Money Makers project.

By creating a currency, thinking about its design, value and distribution, the project explores the concept of money and examines the operation of economic systems and networks throughout the world in a creative manner. The vator note will have changing value over the three day event that will be held in a specific territory at Rivington Place. In its short life-time, there might be different economic climates: inflation, stockmarket crashes, fake money scandals and rogue traders affecting the value of the vator note.

Audiences are invited to collect and spend the vator while exploring the new State - it will have its own history, media, architecture, market and bars. Notes will be available on-line and at various distribution points.

This project has been developed by artist Harun Morrison (of They are here) with the INIvators (Iniva's Youth Advisory Board). This marks the first collaborative project with the INIvators and a professional artist.

Editors Notes

This is an Iniva project at Rivington Place supported by Bloomberg.
Bloomberg is the principal funder of Iniva's education programme.

Iniva (Institute of International Visual Arts) creates exhibitions, publications, multimedia, education and research projects designed to bring the work of artists from culturally-diverse backgrounds to the attention of the widest possible public. (www.iniva.org)

Rivington Place is Iniva and Autograph ABP's new contemporary visual arts space and the UK's first permanent public space dedicated to culturallydiverse visual arts and photography. The building has been realised with thanks to funding from the Arts Council England Lottery Capital 2 Programme and Barclays, the Rivington Place founding Corporate Partner. Barclays' £1.1m contribution is part of a much wider programme of community support, which last year totalled over £45 million - one of the most substantial in the UK. The Rivington Place project also gives thanks to London Development Agency, City Fringe Partnership, European Regional Development Fund (ERDF), Hackney Council and The City Bridge Trust for their support as well as The
Foyle Foundation and the Garfield Weston Foundation. Thanks also to
Brodksy Centre and Clifford Chance for their in-kind support.
