Scope:

Panchayat was founded in London in 1988 by five artists - Allan de Souza, Bhajan Hunjan, Shaheen Merali, Symrath Patti and Shanti Thomas - as a response to the need for the representation of Southern world and first nation artists. It has since expanded to accommodate a widened International perspective.  The collection now represents and promotes contemporary artists producing issue-based work, with a particular focus on cultural identity. Panchayat's library and archive includes books, exhibition catalogues, information files, journals, slides and videos.
