Scope

The Espigas Foundation and its Documentation Center for the History of Visual Arts in Argentina were created in 1993. It is a non profit private institution whose archives can be used by the general public.
The Espigas Foundation has organized an important bibliographical and documental bank as well as its Data Base, effective local and international consulting tools on Argentine art in our country and in the world, plus international art related to Argentina.

The Documentation Center's consulting service to specialists and the general public is free. It also offers:

  • Paid service for research work carried out by the Foundation's staff and mailed to a required address
  • Espigas Express:  specific information on an exhibition, a work of art, an artist, a publication
  • Espigas Dossier: comprehensive research on an artist or work of art using the institution's bibliographical bank.

The Foundation encourages donations and interchange of bibliographical and documental material with other national and international institutions.

Collection strengths

  • The bibliographical collections currently have about 185,000 items mainly on XXth Century Argentine art, Argentine artists in the world, Latin American art and international art related to Argentina, mainly Italian, French and Spanish

  • The Espigas Data Base currently has 101.423 records holding one-man and group exhibition catalogs, graphic news, reference works, monographs and auction catalogs. The Espigas Data Base, which is constantly updated, is the most important Data Base specialized in visual arts in Argentina.  It is accessible online.

  • RIA  is an important referent of documentation and information on Visual Arts related to Argentina. RIA, created in July 1999 and organized by Espigas Foundation, is a network made up with the Data Bases of the National Fine Arts Academy, ANBA; the Research Institute "Julio E. Payro" of the Buenos Aires University Arts Faculty, PAYRÓ and the Buenos Aires Museum of Modern Art, MAMBA.

The The Documentation Center's consulting service to specialists and the general public is free.

Mondays to Fridays from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.

Previous appointment is required.
