Scope

Asia Art Archive is the first ever non-profit research centre in Hong Kong dedicated to documenting the recent history of visual art from the region within an international context. Its objectives are:

  • Research, collate and catalogue published and unpublished material relating to contemporary Asian art, to form the most comprehensive resource available for visual art in the region.
  • To work with other cultural bodies to organize symposia, and exhibitions to act as a forum for exchange of ideas.
  • To establish a number of research posts in the region.
  • To offer research services from the Archive's base in Hong Kong.
  • To producing its own publications.
  • Data development of its library to promote access to art from Asia internationally

Collection Strengths

The Asia Art Archive is building its initial collections by region. The AAA has been focusing on acquiring all printed material from China, Hong Kong, Taiwan and Macao, and will focus on two or more new countries each year, to include Southeast Asia and South Asia. - The majority of our current catalogued material and holdings relate to material on contemporary art from Mainland China, Hong Kong, Taiwan and Macau. The AAA Library has been cataloguing art-related material including Exhibition Catalogues, Monographs, Books, Periodicals, Leaflets, Invitations, Clippings, DVDs, CD-ROMS and Videos since May 2002.
