About

Jeanette Chávez was born in 1980 in Havana where she lives and works. In 2004 she graduated from the Academia de Artes Plásticas San Alejandro, and then became a member of the Cátedra Arte de Conducta directed by Tania Bruguera. She is currently studying at the Instituto Superior de Arte, Havana.

She has received several awards including the Gran Premio, XVI Salón de la Ciudad in 2006, and she participated in a residency with the Batiscafo Project in Havana with the Triangle Arts Trust in 2007.

Chávez’s solo exhibitions include De la imposibilidad a la permanencia del deseo, Galería Myto, SITAC, Mexico (2006) and Estado ausente, Centro Provincial de Artes Plásticas y Diseño, Havana (2007). Her work has also been included in several group exhibitions including Identidad, Museo Público de Arte Contemporaneo de Tlalpan, MUPACT, Mexico (2006); Enjoy, Proyecto Circo, Havana (2006); Ars Latina 06, Macerata, Italy (2006); I Encuentro de Arte Público, Ciego de Ávila, Cuba (2006); Close Up, Pasagüero, Mexico (2007); Ominous Atmosphere, Heather Marx Gallery, San Francisco (2007); and Close Up, Festival de Video Creación Strobe, Amposta, Spain (2007).
