Pennina writes about contemporary visual and material culture. She is a Founding Editor (now Associate Editor) of the academic journal Textile: The Journal of Cloth and Culture, (Berg Publishers, Oxford, UK), and co-editor of String (2007) a special issue of Textile.  Her curatorial work has included: Craft Matters, The Subversive Stitch, Under Construction, and Textures of Memory: the poetics of cloth, (all UK touring exhibitions).

Pennina’s research focuses on cloth and metaphor; culture, identity and difference; art and psychoanalysis. She has written extensively on the work of artist Chohreh Feyzdjou (1955 – 1996). In 2009 Pennina is working on a single author book that takes cloth as a multidimensional metaphor for ideas of subjectivity, materiality, process and language.
