In the 1980s Alan Read was Director of the Rotherhithe Theatre Workshop and from 1994-1997 Director of Talks at the Institute of Contemporary Arts, ICA in London. He is author of Theatre and Everyday Life: An Ethics of Performance, editor of The Fact of Blackness: Frantz Fanon and Visual Representation and recently published Architecturally Speaking: Practices of Art, Architecture and the Everyday, an collection of essays exploring space, place, architecture and artistic practice. Read is Professor and Chair of Drama, Theatre and Performance Studies at the University of Surrey Roehampton.
