Mari Carmen Ramirez

Mari Carmen Ramirez, is the former curator of Latin American Art Jack S. Blanton Museum at the University of Texas. In 2001 she was appointed curator of Latin American art at the Museum of Fine Arts, Houston. In an interview she comments on the recent hype around her academic field with the following observation: "The first thing I would like to clarify is that there is no such thing as a 'Latin American' art. Latin America encompasses more than 20 countries with extremely diverse racial, ethnic, and social compositions, histories, and backgrounds."
