Bruce Nauman

Bruce Nauman has been recognized since the early 1970s as one of the most innovative contemporary artists. Confronted with 'What to do?' in his studio soon after graduating Nauman had the simple but profound realization that 'If I was an artist and I was in the studio, then whatever I was doing in the studio must be art.' He is interested in the most elementary bodily activities, speech patterns and materials of daily use. Nauman earned degrees from the University of Wisconsin, Madison (1964); University of California, Davis, (1966); San Francisco Art Institute, San Francisco (1966-68); University of California, Irvine, (1970). He lives in the United States.
