Laura Mulvey

Laura Mulvey has taught both film studies and film practice at several British colleges and universities and has lectured widely in Europe and North America.

Her influence on film studies is mainly attributed to her 1975 article 'Visual Pleasure and Narrative Cinema' which used psychoanalytic theory to give a feminist critique of Hollywood cinema. She co-directed six experimental films with theorist and film scholar Peter Wollen. She collaborated with the artist/film-maker Mark Lewis on Disgraced Monuments (1994), a study of iconoclasm in the Soviet Union after the fall of communism.

Mulvey is Professor of Film and Media Studies at Birkbeck College, London.
