Joanna Morland

Biography

Joanna Morland is a freelance arts consultant working mainly in the fields of public art, arts in education, visual arts and dance. She was trained as an artist and was a practitioner for several years until 1983 when she moved into arts development. She has worked for over nine years as an arts development officer for County Councils in the north east and south west of England. In addition she has managed a number of large visual arts projects for independent organisations including the New Milestones Project in Dorset for Common Ground and A Quality of Light for St Ives International.

Since becoming freelance in 1998, Joanna has worked extensively in public art. She has written a feasibility study for the continuing public art programme along the River Parrett Trail in Somerset. She also researched the feasibility and subsequently managed the development of Public Art South West's website www.publicartonline.org.uk (first launched in 2000) which she continues to manage and update. The second version of Public Art Online was launched in July 2003. She has researched and written 14 original in-depth case studies and six brief case studies for publication on the website. Joanna has also been active in the arts education field. She co-ordinated the pilot year for Dorset's Arts Education Agency, researched a quality assurance process for artists working in schools, and carryed out market research into a menu of services and packages to be offered to schools for Devon's Arts Education Agency, DAISI. She co-ordinated Tandem's pilot programme in 2001 which offered opportunities for teachers to nurture their own creativity by working alongside artists. was run in partnership with the six Arts Education Agencies in the South West region.

She continues to work freelance and is based on Portland in Dorset.
