Lesley Naa Norle Lokko was born in Scotland of mixed Ghanaian-Scots parentage and grew up in Ghana. Trained as an architect, she began lecturing in 1995. She has taught at the Bartlett, the University of Greenwich, the University of North London in the UK, and at Iowa State University and the University of Illinois at Chicago in the US. She has worked in practice in South Africa, Namibia, France, London and now in Ghana.

She has published and lectured widely on the subject of race and its relationship to architecture, most notably in her edited anthology, White Papers, Black Marks: Race, Culture, Architecture (Athlone 2000). Her first novel, Sundowners, was published in 2004.
