Andy Goldsworthy studied at Bradford College of Art (1974-75) and Preston Polytechnic (1975-78). He lived in Yorkshire, Lancashire and Cumbria and finally settled in Dumfriesshire in 1986. Most of his works are site-specific, open air and in places as diverse as the Yorkshire Dales, the Lake District, St Louis, Canada, the North Pole, Japan and Australia. In his sculptural practice he makes use of the materials at hand: twigs, leaves, stones, snow, ice, reeds and thorns to create works of ephemeral and transitory beauty. Goldsworthy's studio is in Dumfries, Scotland.
