Stephen Foster is the director of the John Hansard Gallery since 1987. He has twice been the Chairman of VAGA (Visual Arts and Galleries' Association) 1996-1999 and 2001-2002 and is currently Chair of the Southampton City Council's Cultural Consortium, a body responsible for developing the city's cultural strategy. He is also an active researcher with a substantial publication record.
