Born in Newcastle-Upon-Tyne, UK, 1971

David Barrett studied Fine Art at London's Byam Shaw School of Drawing and Painting from 1991 to 1994, and completed a two-year MA in the Media department of the Slade School of Art in 1997.
Since 1994 he has written for many art publications, most frequently the British magazines frieze and Art Monthly. He has curated several exhibitions, taught in a variety of colleges, and was Editor of www.eyestorm.com from 1999-2002.
He lives and works in London and maintains a partial archive of his articles, projects and web-based artworks at www.david-barrett.com.
