The Stuart Hall Library is a unique and valuable reference resource for students, researchers and all interested readers and is one of the leading UK libraries in its field.

Library resources

The library holds a continually expanding collection of monographs, catalogues, periodicals, DVDs, CDs, slides and other media on visual arts and culture.

The collection focuses on contemporary art from Africa, Asia, Latin America and the work of British artists from different cultural backgrounds. The wealth of material includes over 4,000 exhibition catalogues, 1,000 monographs – covering cultural, political, gender and media studies – and over 140 periodicals, including titles not readily available in the UK.

The collection benefits from some 4,500 slides (plus ephemera) which are stored in active artists' files. Requests from artists wishing to submit images of their work for inclusion in the archive are always welcome.

Library catalogue

Library visitors can access the collection through an easy-to-use computer catalogue. Titles can be searched by author, keyword, title, curator, artist or individual contributor and each record provides a short description of the article or publication in question.
We apologise for temporary loss of access to the online catalogue from outside of the library whilst we upgrade the facility.

Photocopying and WIFI

We provide photocopying and computer facilities with WIFI access. Users can ask the librarian for Iniva's wireless key to use facilities. (Please be aware that beyond this we can’t provide WIFI technical support.)
