During the colonial era, Indian artists were commissioned by the East India Company to produce paintings and drawings, which depicted scenes of everyday life. These artists adapted their own styles to accommodate western conventions, creating a new artistic genre. Alongside these nineteenth century Company paintings, the project 'Drawing Space: Contemporary Indian Drawing' brought together three contemporary Indian artist's NS Harsha, Sheela Gowda and Nasreen Mohamedi, mapping the historical connection between India and Britain and re-approaching the discipline of drawing.
