The Columbian artist Carlos Blanco was invited to London from April to July 2001, to take part in the artists in residence programme at the Gasworks Artists' Studios as part of the Gasworks / inIVA International Residency programme. He developed several two-metre tall plastic inflatable masks representing characters from Colombia. Attached to air pumps, the heads inflate and deflate, both in relation to each other and according to the size of each character's ego.
