As part of the Artist-in-Research programme Louise K. Wilson spent a period of four weeks at the Science Museum, London examing the 'Exploration of Space' gallery and the Museum's library.
Her idea of the museum as a 'dream space' where 'real' objects may prompt shifting meanings amongst visitors to the Museum resulted into two audio pieces and a sealed steel capsule containing a transcipt of the entire Apollo 11 lunar mission commentary. The audio recordings explored the cultural perceptions of Space as an arena for evoking both nostalgia and dread.
'Oneironaut' invited the listener to reconsider the fate of Laika, the first dog sent into space on board Sputnik II in 1957, at the time when technology had not yet been invented to enable space capsules to return safely back to Earth.
'Enactment / Leaving the Lunar Surface' the second audio piece featured words spoken by actors, orginially uttered across Space.
