Chairman's Statement

inIVA has successfully completed the process of transition necessitated by the resignation of Gilane Tawadros, its first Director, and the appointment of Gus Casely-Hayford as her successor. The core team has been renewed and expanded, the effort to develop new income streams to support the programme has already yielded results, new communications, marketing, PR and branding strategies have been put in place, and an intense process of programme planning initiated. The organisation is prepared for the shift of gear required by the move into its new building in 2007 and the programme of activities necessary to sustain it. Meanwhile the quality of inIVA's artistic programme has been maintained, with a series of striking small shows in The Space (Kabir Hassain, Idris Khan), the preparation of its major exhibition, Alien Nation, which opens at the ICA in the Autumn, and the publication of the important series of books re-reading contemporary art from a diasporic perspective, edited by Kobena Mercer.

Meanwhile, inIVA has continued to take the lead, together with its partner Autograph ABP, in the many planning and organisational tasks associated with the final stages of the completion of the Rivington Place project. The building is ahead of schedule for Summer 2007. The external shell of the building is far advanced and will be completed by Christmas: the internal work is due for completion by July 2007 and the new building will be ready as planned for occupancy and the expanded programme of activities to follow.
