Professor Stuart Hall
Chairman's Statement
Over the past decade, there have been significant developments in the international art world that are transforming the landscape of contemporary visual art and culture into a truly global arena. An increasing ‘internationalism' of the mainstream art agenda is evident from the recent interest in work of artists from all parts of the globe and the application of new technologies that are facilitating communication, dissemination and exchange. inIVA has been a key protagonist in this shifting landscape, achieving recognition as an organisation which is at the cutting edge of international curatorial practice across all its forms - exhibitions, publishing, education and research and multimedia. Most importantly, inIVA's programme makes explicit the connection between artistic practice locally and globally, cultural diversity in the world and cosmopolitanism at home.
With over one and a half million hits to our website over the past year and projects like the Egyptian Cinema Posters billboard project, the Club Mix music festival tour and our virtual gallery the X-Space, inIVA is committed to connecting with new audiences outside the gallery space and providing opportunities for artists to innovate and take risks with new ideas and forms. Artists and their ideas remain at the heart of the organisation and its programme which is continually seeking new ways to dissolve the boundaries between artists and audiences.
