Curator, Contemporary Art Space Project

Location: working across three schools in the area of Birmingham and Redditch
Duration: 2 year freelance contract
Fee:  £3000 for ten days per year (£6,000 total)

Iniva and RSA Academies are working together on a two-year programme of art-making and community engagement arising from RSA Academies’ Commitment to Arts, Culture and Creativity.

This project is designed to develop young people’s sense of identity and explore what it means to be human through co-commissioning new artworks in response to social issues they identify as important. The Contemporary Art Space Project will see the creation of an outdoor contemporary art space in three RSA schools in the West Midlands.

The role of the curator will be key to the smooth running and delivery of the development and subsequent installation of commissioned artworks. They will also support a programme of engagement at each school in conjunction with RSA Academies.

Each year, the curator will work with a steering group of pupils and a lead teacher from each school alongside three artists (pre-selected by an Iniva-led panel). Exploring social issues relevant to the pupils and their communities the curator, artists and pupils will collaboratively decide on the themes for the three commissions.

If you wish to apply for the Curator, Contemporary Art Space Project, please send a completed application form and equal opportunities monitoring form to sibreck@iniva.org with ‘Curator / Producer for CAS’ as the subject. CVs will not be accepted as part of the application.

Interviews will be held at Iniva on Wednesday 31 July 2019.
